Wanna-be UFC women’s bantamweight champ Angela Hill takes on undefeated champion Liz Carmouche in a title fight
Liz Carmounche’s reign of dominance over the bantamweights division was about to come to an end in a main event at UFC Fight Night 86.
It will mark the first time that the American Kickboxing Academy alum has faced a real-life opponent.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Liz Carmoux, but I’m going to do what I have to do,” said Hill, who defeated Carmoucho by unanimous decision at UFC 187.
“I’m going there to take her down.
I’m not going to be afraid of anyone.
I want to be the best fighter in the world.
I know that.
I have a lot to prove, and I want people to see that I’m the best.”
The fight will take place at Bellator 131 on April 18 in Portland, Oregon.
In the co-main event, “The Ultimate Fighter” alum Jessica Aguilar will try to bounce back from a decision loss to Germaine de Randamie, which she earned via submission.
Hill (19-6) is the first woman to take on the winner of an RFA bout, and Aguilar (15-2) is only the second woman to fight for the UFC.
Hill has been training with Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Jose “The Beast” Santos and will be competing against a pair of former UFC bantamenders in Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson.
Hill is the latest fighter in Bellator to be offered a title shot, following in the footsteps of her teammate Miesha Tate and UFC brawler Tristar MMA veteran Joanna Jędrzejczynska-Jankowski.
The UFC on Fox 2 card is headlined by a featherweight bout between Ronda Rousey and Mieshka Tate.
Rousey is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Bethe Correia, and the former Strikeforce champion has not competed since 2013.
Tate will be looking to bounceback after winning the Strikeforce bantamantamweight title in 2015, and she was expected to face the winner in the title fight, which went to the judges scorecards.
Jędrajzyk will be fighting on a two-fight losing streak after winning a decision over Demetrious Johnson in her UFC debut in March.
Johnson is coming back from his first loss of the year, which saw him knock out Jessica Eye in a dominant second round.
Bryan Barberena, Joe Lauzon, and Jelena Ostapenko will be making their first Bellator appearances.
Bellator 131 takes place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
