‘Wanted’ to kill family but did not, police say

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A mother who wanted to kill her children, her husband and herself but was arrested in the middle of a violent rampage in New Jersey has been charged with murder, police said.

A court hearing was set for Thursday in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The suspect was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his children to death in the woods in Bridgeton, New Jersey.

Police say he then drove to New Jersey, where he shot his wife and two young children to stop a neighbor from entering the home and killing them.

He then stabbed his wife to death, and then stabbed himself in the stomach in the driveway, police told CBS News.

He was arrested shortly after the murders, but authorities say they don’t know who did it.

“We know it’s an extremely disturbed person,” New Jersey State Police Capt. Paul Mireles told CBS2’s Steve Gann.

“He was a very violent person.

He had a very bad temper.

We know he had some mental health issues.”

Investigators are trying to determine whether the motive was domestic violence, or whether the killings were premeditated.

They said the suspect had a history of mental health problems and was previously in treatment.

Mirels said the woman’s motive is still unclear, and there are no indications that she knew the children were dead.

Investigators have not released any other information about the suspects.
